Mendip Gardening Club was started in 2011 and is based in Ston Easton. It was aimed initially at the local community, but we are pleased to say it now attracts members from many of the surrounding villages.
Our aim is to encourage an interest and love of gardening and all things pertaining to it, which gives us scope to cover a wide range of topics. Whilst we like to be informative, we also encourage a friendly and sociable atmosphere at meetings.
Most months we have a speaker, we try to choose a seasonal topic or something of mutual interest. The club is affiliated to the RHS and a member of the Somerset Federation of Gardening Clubs.
In order to encourage a wider audience, who may not be gardeners, we decided to broaden our topics, Chris Sperring came along to talk about Owls – particularly Barn Owls and Sam Scriven, Earth Science Officer of the Jurassic Coast Team gave a talk about The Jurassic Coast, including aspects of the Mendips – for instance did you know there were Ichthyosaur fossils found at Street?!
Visitors and new members are always made very welcome on 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm at Ston Easton Village Hall. Visitors fee £2.00.
